Clean-Up Efforts After Recent Windstorm
Latest Updates as of February 5, 2025.
✔
✔
We understand the need for extensive clean-up following the extreme weather events that occurred during the week of January 6th. While City preparations and advance warnings helped limit damage, the intensity of the winds proved too extreme for many of our trees and infrastructure.

We encourage residents to assist by reporting any clean-up needs in your neighborhoods. Please don’t assume an issue has already been reported and understand that it may take a few weeks to address all areas. Together, we will complete this effort.

As of February 5, 2025:

Public Works has completed 83% of the clean-up. 10 of 12 districts are done. Clean-up efforts will be finished by the end of this week, putting it just over a 4-week completion schedule, versus the 6-8 weeks initially anticipated.

Clean-Up Progress Update Summary
The City fully understands and acknowledge the community's concerns about the clean-up timeline following the recent wind event. Significant progress has been made, with approximately 50% of the systematic district clean-up completed just 2.3 weeks into the effort—well ahead of the initial 6-8 week estimate.
Efforts to Expand Services:
-
Internal Resources
-
Staff from Integrated Waste Management (IWM) and Maintenance Services are working overtime, including Saturdays, to enhance service levels.
-
-
West Coast Arborist (WCA)
-
WCA has been a key partner since the outset, completing their current priority list by this weekend. Discussions are underway to expand their role under the existing purchase order to accelerate progress further.
-
-
Support from Other Departments
-
GWP has been approached for additional support but is unable to assist further due to existing critical projects.
-
Next Steps:
The City aims to refine the projected timeline for completing the remaining districts by Monday, January 27, 2025. This will help us evaluate progress and optimize the deployment of WCA and internal crews to expedite the process further.
The City remains fully committed to completing the clean-up as quickly as possible. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let us know.

Following the recent windstorm that left an unprecedented amount of green waste and debris across the city, the Glendale Public Works Department has initiated comprehensive clean-up efforts to restore our community. Public Works crews are systematically working block-by-block to clear fallen limbs, brush, and other debris from streets. Here’s how you can help with clean-up efforts:
To expedite the process, Glendale residents are encouraged to follow these guidelines:
-
Use Green Waste Containers: Place yard waste, such as branches, bushes, leaves, and grass clippings, in your green yard waste container. Cut larger brush into smaller, manageable pieces to maximize container space.
-
Palm Fronds Are Trash: Dispose of palm fronds in your black trash container.
-
No Mixed Waste: Only yard waste and bagged food scraps should go in the green waste container. Do not use plastic bags for yard waste.
-
Avoid Obstructions: Ensure debris does not block driveways or access to neighboring properties.
-
Manage Piles Responsibly: Limit the width of green waste piles in the street to the width of a parked car, and do not leave yard waste in alleys.

Important Note:
Due to the substantial volume of debris, residents should anticipate delays in the clean-up process. The estimated timeline for citywide debris removal is six to eight weeks. To maintain regular citywide waste collection services, additional collection routes cannot be added.
Residents are advised to:
-
Stage extra green waste for subsequent weekly collections if containers are full.
-
Consider hiring private waste haulers at personal expense for excessive debris removal.
Storm Debris Beyond Green Waste:
-
For items such as broken swing sets, fences, gates, or lawn furniture:
Single-family households (1–4 units): Submit a bulky item pickup request at GlendaleCA.gov/BulkyItem.
Multi-Family households (5+ units) and commercial properties:
-
Property owners or management companies should contact their Glendale-approved franchised hauler to schedule a pickup. To find your hauler, visit GlendaleCA.gov/WhoIsMyHauler.
The Glendale Public Works Department appreciates residents’ patience and cooperation as we work diligently to clear debris and restore the beauty of our community.
